Derby Roots & Montana Horizons

Derby Roots & Montana Horizons

Each spring, while the bluegrass fields of Kentucky bloom and Churchill Downs comes alive with the thundering of hooves, we celebrate a tradition that’s close to PollyAnna’s heart—the Kentucky Derby. For our team, it’s not just a horse race; it’s a beloved tradition that connects us to family roots, lifelong memories, and, most importantly, to our incredible clients.

Every year, we gather to host our Kentucky Derby Client Appreciation Party, where past and present clients come together to enjoy the pageantry and camaraderie on the most exciting two minutes in sports.

A Nod to Tradition: The Derby’s Timeless Allure

The Kentucky Derby, first run in 1875, is the longest continually held sporting event in the United States. Each year on the first Saturday in May, the world watches as twenty of the finest three-year-old thoroughbreds race 1¼ miles for the coveted garland of roses. It’s not just a race—it’s a cultural phenomenon, rich with history, fashion (those hats!), and, of course, mint juleps.

This year marks the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby, set for Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Churchill Downs. The field features 21 top three-year-old colts competing for the coveted garland of roses and a $5 million purse. Leading the pack is Journalism, the 3-1 morning-line favorite, who enters the race on a four-race winning streak, including a victory in the Santa Anita Derby. Other notable contenders include Sovereignty (5-1), known for his strong late finishes, and Sandman (6-1), the Arkansas Derby winner with a powerful closing kick. Longshots like Burnham Square (12-1), winner of the Blue Grass Stakes, and Luxor Café (15-1), a Japanese colt sired by American Pharoah, add depth to this competitive field. The race is scheduled to start at 6:57 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on NBC.

PollyAnna’s Roots: From Kentucky to Montana Dreaming

For PollyAnna, the Derby is more than an annual event—it’s part of her story. She grew up in Kentucky, where the first Saturday in May was as cherished as a family holiday. From early childhood, she was immersed in the traditions of the Derby, attending races, learning about bloodlines, and understanding the deep connection Kentuckians feel toward horses.

Years later, PollyAnna and her family made a bold move west to Montana, trading thoroughbreds for the wild, untamed beauty of the Rockies. She often reflects that if she could make such a significant change and build a fulfilling life here, so can others. Many of our clients come to Montana searching for something new—a sense of place, adventure, or simply a fresh start—and PollyAnna’s journey stands as a testament to the power of following your dreams.

Montana Living: Horses, Heritage, and Wide-Open Skies

While the horses in Montana might not race for roses, they hold their own kind of majesty. From working ranch horses to the iconic wild horses roaming the Pryor Mountains, equine culture is deeply woven into Montana’s lifestyle. Here, horses represent freedom, resilience, and a connection to the land that resonates with so many who choose to call this place home.

Just as the Derby celebrates tradition and new beginnings, so does our client appreciation event. It’s a way for us to honor where we’ve come from, celebrate where we are now, and toast to the exciting journeys ahead for all of us.

So whether you’re a longtime Montanan, a newcomer, or still dreaming of making the move—remember, life’s most rewarding races often start when you follow your heart.
